Police Department

Our Mission:
The mission of the Sunset Beach Police is to provide exceptional services to our diverse community.  We strive to reduce the occurrence and fear of crime while enhancing public safety.  We are dedicated to serving with honor, integrity, and professionalism while maintaining public confidence.

Staff and Services:

We have a staff of 17 full-time patrol officers and supervisors who are visible throughout town 24 hours a day. We complement our full-time staff with part-time patrol officers who add more coverage during busy times of year.

Included in the full-time staff is one full-time detective and two full-time uniformed detectives. Detectives investigate crimes throughout the town and follow up on tips that can prevent crimes from occurring.

We provide animal control and code enforcement services as part of our regular function. We have two officers who are certified as Nuisance Alligator Agents through the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission.

  • Accident Reports: Sunset Beach Police has partnered with Carfax to allow for easier access to accident reports.  Accident reports can now be accessed online, 24/7, at www.crashdocs.org at no cost for the involved parties.  This online portal allows for instant access to records that can be printed or emailed right from the website.
  • House Check Program:  Residents who are away from their homes for an extended amount of time. Homeowners can submit a form to the police department informing us of departure and return dates, and be content that their residence will be closely monitored while they are away. House checks are not available for short-term rental property, property listed for sale, or commercial property. (House checks are not to exceed two weeks in length. Each address is limited to two requests per calendar year). Click here for the House Check Program form.
