Hurricane Re-Entry Pass Information

Each spring, the Town of Sunset Beach issues hurricane re-entry passes to island property owners in preparation for hurricane season.

Passes will be mailed to the mailing address on file with the Brunswick County Tax Office in early spring. Only new island property owners—those who purchased property after the spring mailing—will need to obtain their passes in person at Town Hall. Documentation verifying ownership is required.

Please note: Passes are only issued to island property owners. Mainland residents do not need a re-entry pass.

During emergency events such as hurricanes, the Town will close the bridge to the island for public safety and the protection of first responders. The Sunset Beach Police Department will man the bridge, and access to the island will be restricted.

After the event, Town Officials will inspect the island to ensure it is safe. Once the bridge reopens, access will be granted first to re-entry pass holders, followed by the general public.

Re-entry passes may also be issued to contractors with ongoing projects during hurricane season, provided they have active building permits on file with the Town.

Now is a great time to sign up for the Town’s E-Notifications to stay informed about events, closings, and emergency updates.
