Majestic Oaks Park (Final Design)

In 2022, the Town of Sunset Beach acquired a 4.28-acre tract on the east end of the island between Cobia Street and 16^th Street. The purchase price was $2,000,000; the property appraised at a retail value of $3,800,000. The Town applied for and received two (2) grants towards the purchase of the property. The Town was awarded $500,000 from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) and $250,000 from the NC Division of Coastal Management Public Beach and Waterfront Access Grant Program. The Town intends to preserve the property as open space by developing the Majestic Oak Park.

In 2024/2025, the Town applied for and received two (2) grants for the development of the park. The Town was awarded $500,000 from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) and $392,175 from the NC Division of Coastal Management Public Beach and Waterfront Access Grant Program.

Currently the Town is working with the engineers for the final design that will be used to secure the stormwater permit and CAMA Major Site Development permit. Afterwards, construction plans will be developed, and bids will be solicited. The Town Council will review the bids and award the construction contract. We hope to begin construction in early summer 2026.
