Code Enforcement/Project Manager
The Town of Sunset Beach Code Enforcement Division works to maintain a clean, safe, and attractive community by enforcing local ordinances related to property maintenance, zoning, environmental protection, and public safety. We partner with residents, businesses, and property owners to ensure compliance and promote the well-being of our neighborhoods and natural environment. Our Code Enforcement responsibilities include:
1. Property Maintenance
We enforce standards that help keep properties clean and safe:
Overgrown grass, weeds, and vegetation (Chapter 94)
Accumulation of trash, debris, or discarded items
Unsafe structures or conditions that pose a hazard
2. Public Nuisances
We address conditions that negatively impact neighbors or the general public:
Excessive noise (Chapter 92)
Offensive odors or unsanitary conditions
Improper storage of junk vehicles or appliances
3. Environmental Protections
Preserving Sunset Beach’s natural beauty is a priority. Code enforcement helps regulate:
Illegal dumping or improper disposal of waste
Protection of dunes and beach vegetation (Chapter 96)
Enforcement of dune walkover regulations
4. Signage and Zoning
To maintain the town's charm and coastal character, we ensure compliance with:
Sign regulations (Chapter 151)
Home-based businesses and land use violations
Setback and building code infractions
5. Rental and Housing Code Compliance
Ensuring safe and healthy living conditions in rental housing, including:
Minimum housing standards
Occupancy requirements
Addressing abandoned or vacant structures

In Person: Visit Town Hall during regular business hours
Please provide the address and a description of the issue when reporting. All reports are confidential to the extent permitted by law.
Our Process
Inspection: A Code Enforcement Officer will inspect the property.
Notice of Violation: If a violation exists, the property owner will receive a written notice with a deadline to correct the issue.
Follow-Up: The officer will re-inspect the property. Failure to comply may result in fines or legal action.
Voluntary Compliance: We prioritize education and voluntary compliance before pursuing enforcement measures.
